It’s been almost ten years since Julie Silver released a CD of new original music, but we think you’ll agree that it’s been worth the wait! Reunion is a brand new collection of original Jewish music, produced and arranged by Julie’s longtime collaborator, David Kates (producer of Julie’s 1995 release Walk With Me and 1998’s Beyond Tomorrow). These twelve “songs from a faithful heart” reflect Julie’s journey over the last ten years, and are sure to resonate with your journey as well.
Reunion features a mix of new liturgical settings (>“Dodi Li,” “R’faeinu,” “Halleluyah (Psalm 150)”) and narrative story-songs with smart, sophisticated lyrics in English (“Monica’s Chair,” “The Barefoot Sisters”). As a bonus, Julie includes a cover of Carole King’s “Been To Canaan,” a favorite of hers for years. Julie's crack band is a "who's who" list of top Southern California studio players (Roberto Vally, Jeffrey Stern, Dov Schiller, Mat Gurman, and others), and the album features guest appearances by friends Rabbi Joe Black, Beth Schafer, Eve Nelson, Doug Cotler, Kyle Cotler, Noah Cotler, and Cantor Linda Kates. Digitally mixed by Scott Leader at Southwest Studios, this state-of-the-art production sparkles with life and energy.
Why the title, Reunion? From the liner notes, Julie explains:
“I’ve been attending to a lot of reunions lately—college, high school, summer camp, even my elementary school graduating class reunited this past year. What a day that was–our children running around and playing together while we told stories, sang songs, and remembered how we ran around and played together as kids.
A friend whom I had not seen in thirty years came to me to say goodbye with tears in his eyes. “I am so grateful for this day,” he said, “I thought I had lost my childhood.” In the days that followed, I realized how blessed I am to do the kind of work that takes me all over the world, visiting the people I love and the places that mean so much to me. In this beautiful world, every place becomes a home; every connection, a reunion”
Reunite with the music and the spirit of one of the most celebrated and beloved performers in the world of contemporary Jewish music today, the inimitable Julie Silver.

IT'S CHANUKAH TIME - CD
From the first notes of this remarkable recording you'll know it's not the "same old Chanukah music." With joyful exuberance, Julie Silver brings a refreshing new sound to many of our Chanukah favorites. From the bluesey slide guitar of "The Dreidel Song" to the Latin rhythms of "Chanukah, O Chanukah," from the middle eastern strains of "Maoz Tzur/Rock of Ages" to the reggae arrangement of the gospel classic, "This Little Light of Mine," this CD weaves threads of rock and folk with musical traditions from around the globe. Producer Tor Hyams' innovative arrangements and Julie's clear, soulful vocals perfectly capture the powerful message and enduring spirit of Chanukah. Traditional favorites like "S'vivon Sov, Sov, Sov" and "Maoz Tzur" blend seamlessly with contemporary favorites like Rabbi Joe Black's "Judah Maccabee" and Julie's own "It's Chanukah Time." My Jewish World: An Early Childhood Music Curriculum (Book/CD set)
Music can be a wonderfully effective teaching tool for preschool aged children. My Jewish World guides teachers through the process of introducing and utilizing song in the classroom to teach Jewish values.
In her comprehensive and easy to follow book, Judy Caplan Ginsburgh includes twenty-six songs, religious and secular, that will help to facilitate an environment of fun and learning. Each song addresses important Jewish concepts and many use Hebrew words and prayers. Judy provides comments, activities, and creative ideas, specific for each song, which can be used in the classroom to learn about being Jewish every day. The importance of saying the Sh'ma each morning, learning the Hebrew words for colors, understanding body parts, and the value of cooperation are only some of the Jewish concepts touched on in the book.
In addition, Judy Ginsburgh includes a list of suggested books for many of the topics. These books help to reinforce and expand the lessons laid out in the curriculum.
With a helpful glossary of Hebrew and Yiddish terms and the companion music CD, My Jewish World is a wonderful guide to making music significant in the Jewish classroom.
